A Group of 1951 U.S. Open at Oak Hill Golf Press Kit Background Material Typescripts - Hogan Win
This lot consists of several pages of original typewritten documents titled Background Material for Press, Radio, Television and Newsreels, produced for the 1951 U.S. Open championship held at Oakland Hills Country Club. The material provides a detailed historical record of the event's preparation and context. Included are specific details regarding the $12,000 prize purse and its distribution, as well as extensive information on the course remodeling overseen by architect Robert Trent Jones. The text describes the reduction of the course par from 72 to 70 and the addition of 66 new bunkers for a total of 121 traps. A significant portion of the text is dedicated to player Jim Ferrier, including his career statistics and his famous prediction that no one would break par of 280 during the tournament.
