This vintage golf club is manufactured by A.G. Spalding and Bros. and is identified as a Model T from the Gold Medal line. The club head is constructed of wood with a polished brown finish and a bulbous profile characteristic of the early 20th century. The face features an inset metal plate secured by four flat-head screws, decorated with a hand-scored cross-hatched pattern. A circular trademark stamp on the crown reads A.G. SPALDING and BROS. around the top edge and MADE IN U.S.A. at the bottom. The center of the stamp contains a banner with the word SPALDING, with BEST above and TRADE MARK below. The designation MODEL T is stamped directly into the wood below the circular mark. The tapered wooden shaft is incised with the mark SPALDING GOLD MEDAL. The hosel is reinforced with black cord whipping. The club is finished with a period leather wrap grip. The underside of the head features a metal sole plate characteristic of a brassie.
The item is in antique, used condition. The wooden head exhibits surface scratches, minor dings, and wear to the finish consistent with age and use. The metal face plate and sole plate show oxidation and signs of impact. The wooden shaft remains intact with some loss to the original varnish. The leather grip is heavily worn with a dark patina but remains structurally attached.
