19th Century Golf Lidded Snuff Box
Here we have a very unique golf collectible which we believe dates to the late 19th century. It is a black lacquered oblong snuff box measuring approx.. 4” x 1.5”x 1.5” deep with a metal clasp.
Snuff boxes of the time were made of made from
layered paper and glue, finished with durable
lacquer and often richly decorated such as this one.
They helped keep the snuff at the right humidity.
The hinged lid bears a hand painted scene of blue
and red coated golfers with long nose woods in
hand and wearing top hats. They are accompanied
by caddies carrying arm loads of clubs.
This is truly a one of a kind distinctive item for your
golf collection that would fit nicely in a display
cabinet.
