1996 Tiger Woods Pro-Debut at GMO Hole-by-Hole Calligraphy Scoreboards w/Tiger Woods (8)
Formed in red, green, black and blue marker by the skilled official PGA TOUR Scorer's calligraphic hand, Tiger Woods' "Hello World" pro-debut was numerically detailed for the frenzied on-site patrons and media members on this large format handwritten tournament venue posted scoreboard. While Tiger's third and fourth rounds aren't written out with a hole-by-hole account on thick stock paper, the third and fourth are. Upon examination you will see a stylized red '1' in the 14th hole box of his final round - a moment that not only shook the Brown Deer Park Golf Course in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but the golf world. Our March 2023 auction found the value of that final round scorecard, it commanding a new record in the category by a large margin at $125k. Alphabetically Woods is listed after Willie Wood and only before journeyman Richard Zokol - but was undoubtedly first in gallery count.
The well chronicled Tiger Woods story has had many twists and turns, with many of the lows creating even higher highs. Triumph and tribulation. This tournament was the first, as an unpracticed pro - but not in the golf skill sense. A youthful smile came across Woods' face during his unique arrival announcement, audio/video that is now iconic, at the eve presser of his professional debut at the 1996 Greater Milwaukee Open by the then 3-time US Amateur champion. In front of a vintage Miller Lite logo tournament backdrop the first of many iconic professional moments occurred - a great start to the week in which 20-year-old Tiger Woods' second highlight would come during the final round Sunday with a 1 on the scorecard for hole #14. These scoreboards include Tiger Woods' along with seven others to from the field that made the cut. This investment-grade Tiger Woods debut piece was written by the same scorer's hand as the example that came to market in 2022 and finished at a cool $69,000. 46" x 25", 46" x 38"
