This 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" contestants pin which belonged to Bill Davis carries the same traditional design which the United States Golf Association began employing for its Championships beginning with the 1960 Mens U.S. Open. The U.S. Senior Open which was first contested in 1980 is recognized as a major by both the Champions Tour and the European Seniors Tour. Roberto De Vincenzo would conquer the Winged Foot Golf Club course in Mamaroneck, NY to earn the inaugural Championship offered by the U.S.G.A. for senior men. This example bearing the name of 1940's/50's PGA professional Bill Davis remains in near mint condition.
