1971 PGA Tour Cleveland Open Champion’s 14k Gold Medal - Beechmont CC Bobby Mitchell
Bobby Mitchell turned Professional at the age of 15 and went on to win five (5) career Professional wins, including two (2) on the PGA Tour. His first PGA tour victory is represented by this 14k gold medal awarded him for winning the 1971 Cleveland Open at Beechmont Country Club. A gold medal presentation for winning a PGA Tour event has been custom for decades and this beauty was no exception. Mitchell shot a tournament record 262 finishing -22 and seven (7) shots clear of runner-up Charles Coody and the field to win the $30,000 first prize. Mitchell later padded his golfing resume by winning the 1972 Tournament of Champions and finishing 2nd to Jack Nicklaus in the 1972 Masters. Bobby also spent considerable time on the Senior PGA Tour.
