1971 Ben Hogan Houston Champions Invitational Final Tournament in Canyon Color Presentation Photo
In his home state of Texas, Ben Hogan would play his final golf tournament on May 13, 1971 at the Champions Golf Club. A favor to his friends and club co-founders Jimmy Demaret and Jack Burke, Hogan would injure his leg while looking for his ball mid-round and withdraw on the par-3 fourth hole after hitting three balls into the ravine. He would never play an official competitive round again. Here is a photo of Hogan on the search for his ball, a clear image on Fujifilm paper - printed decades after the event. It is mislabeled on the verso as from 1982, which is incorrect. Previously completing one of the most heroic comebacks in sport, Hogan would be done with competitive golf rather abruptly.
