1966, 1968 & 1972 Official PGA Championship Programs - Firestone, Pecan Valley & Oakland Hills

The 1966 PGA Championship was held at Firestone Country Club because the original site at Columbine C.C. sustained damage from a flash flood. It was the site of Al Geiberger's only Major championship. There is also a solemn memory that accompanies this championship. A few hours after competing in the tournament, Tony Lema along with his wife and two pilots perished as they attempted an emergency landing en route to Illinois. Julius Boros won his 3rd and final Major Championship at Pecan Valley. Presented here is the program from that tournament which saw Boros defeat Arnold Palmer and Bob Charles by a single stroke. At the young age of 48 years, 4 months, 18 days, Boros still has the record of oldest golfer to win a Major Championship. This was the final major tournament before the formation of the Tournament Players Division, later renamed the PGA Tour. This also marked the 2nd of 3 runner-up finishes for Palmer at the PGA Championship, the one major that eluded him throughout his career. Player claimed his 6th Major at the 1972 PGA Championship, his 1 over 281 holding up against the field.
