1966-67 PING "ANSER" Wooden Head Driver and 4 Wood - Seldom Seen, Less Than 200 Sets Made

PING had humble beginnings. It was started in the garage of the founder, Karsten Solheim, in Redwood City. As the company grew, it was was relocated and found its permanent home in Phoenix, Arizona. This lot contains a PING ANSER driver and a PING ANSER 4 wood. These clubs both have sole plates with "PING ANSER" and loft engravings. Head covers also accompany this lot, but they are not original to the clubs. The heads were personally ordered from Fernquist and Johnson by Karsten Solheim. He then removed the sole plates, added heel and toe weight ports and shafted them. Less than 200 sets of these wooden head clubs were manufactured. The 4 wood measures 41 1/4" to the heel and the driver measures 43" to the heel.
