1965 Masters Par 3 Contest Sterling Silver Second Prize Bowl - Billy Casper
In 1958, the Par-3 Course was designed at the Augusta National by architect George Cobb and Clifford Roberts. The day before the Masters starts, the Par 3 contest (a tradition begun in 1960) is held on that course. In 1965 in the sixth such contest, Art Wall Jr won the event, scoring 20 ( a record until Jimmy Walker eclipsed it with 19 in 2016). The runner up of the Par 3 contest was Billy Casper, and offered here is the sterling silver bowl proffered to Casper for his finish at the 1965 Masters Tournament Par 3 contest. The scalloped designed silver footed bowl bears the engraving Billy Casper, Jr - Second Prize Par -3 Contest April 7th 1965 along with Masters logo. A flip of the award to its reverse side finds the stamping Reed & Barton Sterling X568F Francis I. Casper would never win this event in his long distinguished Masters and Hall of Fame career, but he did one up it in 1970 winning the Masters tournament proper. It measures 11 1/2" x 15 1/4" x 2 3/4" and comes in excellent condition, offering an attractive display item of utmost quality to any collection.
