1961 PING Irons - 1 Iron through Pitching Wedge. This set if from the first year PING made irons. Karsten called them the "69 Models" because he thought 69 was a good score to shoot. As told by PING, these clubs are a very early set, probably the first 25 sets made. They are not stamped on the soles with Ballnamic like other sets, only club number on sole. These clubs were stored in an attic for over 45 years. Ping replaced the bent shafts(forward press) with straight shafts as per USGA rules. The PING 69 labels in the back cavities of the irons have been replaced. They were all dried out and had fallen out. PING made about 100 sets of these first years clubs. The PING 1 Iron was special order only (very few made). Bobby Grace looked at this set and said it was a great looking set of 1961's. The set also has a PING "69" Putter, and it is stamped 'Phoenix', not 1961.
