1960’s Arnold Palmer's Personal Tournament Used Wilson Dyna-Powered Staff Model Wedge

Presented here is Arnold Palmer's personal game used early 1960’s museum-grade Wilson W/S Staff Dyna-Powered Model Pitching Wedge straight from the grounds of Latrobe Country Club where most of his clubs were housed. Prominently stamped on this muscle back using an array of typefaces, each uppercase with the exception of the patented Wilson script. Largest in size is the decrescendo 'Dyna-Powered' font centered from the toe. 'Staff Model' in red is just above the stylized 'Wilson.' The club shows excellent game use - all by Palmer himself. Welcomed heavy wear/oxidation on the edge that creeps up on the face is clearly depicted. Arnold used this club so much that he wore down the writing/engraving in the sold of the wedge! This club is similar to the “Arnold Palmer Stamped” wedge we sold earlier this year.

Arnold's obsession with getting his clubs just right has been well-chronicled. In the case of his personal wedge in this lot, vice jaw marks (an unofficial signature of Palmer’s work) can be seen around the hosel and ferrule (photo 10). Arnold personally adjusted the lie and loft on this wedge himself in his personal shop according to our consignor, former LCC Head Golf Professional Ron Lucas. Lucas further added Arnold worked quickly and was always in a hurry when working on clubs. Arnold didn’t care about repair marks, he was more into function and playability.

This club’s origin comes from Ron Lucas, longtime caddy in the 1960’s at Latrobe C.C. and subsequent Head Golf Professional at Latrobe Country Club from 1978-1981. Ron would frequently work on Arnold’s personal clubs during his tenure at Latrobe C.C. Ron, a master clubmaker himself, also serves as founder and president of Pro Golf Club Manufacturing and has also worked on clubs for tour players Lanny Wadkins, Ben Crenshaw, John Mahaffey and Chi Chi Rodriguez, among others, over the years. This club was produced by Wilson during Arnold’s final years of playing Wilson prior to the creation of The Arnold Palmer Golf Company.

A Letter of Authenticity from Ron Lucas will accompany this Club in which Ron will certify this Wedge belonged to and was used by Arnold Palmer. 35"
