1957 Masters Tournament Contestant Badge

This red and white 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" plastic badge is highly elusive to Masters collectors. With badge #1 going to the past years champion (Jack Burke in this case) each badge is then issued according to when the player shows up for the Masters and registers for the tournament. It is the toughest of all Maters credentials. The '57 'Tradition Unlike Any Other' would see the first year of a 36-hole cut at the event (Ben Hogan would miss his only career cut that year) and Doug Ford's victory in which he 'called his shot' - predicting his win with 283 strokes two weeks prior. Ford got it right, with his 283 coming by way of a charging 66 Sunday. This #108 was likely presented to one of the select few honorary invitees. The rounded square shaped adhesive on the verso of the badge is stamped by the maker in a circle design to secure the light brown 'S' shaped pin to the reverse, a process that is unique to these badges. With original pin still in place, this early shield style red and white contestants pin is simple in design but packs a big punch in the way of Masters collectibles.
