1953 PGA National Championship Press Credential Issued to Robert Cromie
Press credential badge issued for the 35th P.G.A. National Championship held at the Birmingham Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama, from June 29 through July 7, 1953. The credential is constructed of a printed card stock insert contained within a rectangular clear plastic sleeve with heat-sealed edges. The top section of the card is red with white text reading 35th P.G.A. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP and BIRMINGHAM COUNTRY CLUB June 29 through July 7, 1953. To the left is a circular logo featuring the stylized initials CBC. The center tan section features the name ROBERT CROMIE and the publication CHICAGO TRIBUNE applied with black stamped ink. The bottom section includes the word Reporter in black type and an identification number p279 stamped in the lower right corner. The reverse of the badge features a metal safety pin style attachment point integrated into the plastic backing. The 1953 season will always be remembered as the year of Ben Hogan. He captured the other three Majors, but travel from Europe at the Open Championship and physical well being did not permit his play in the '53 PGA. This left the door open for Walter Burkemo to claim the final Major of the season..
