1953 Ben Hogan UPI Wire Photo from Open Championship Win
Champion Golfer of the Year for 1953 Ben Hogan is shown here at the Claret Jug trophy presentation in this clear wire photo. Few names in the history of the great game of golf get more respect than Ben Hogan. Coming from very little, Hogan had to work for everything he was ever given, and that's the way he preferred it. In 1953, before the largest gallery in Open history, Ben Hogan's Sunday round 68 was a new single round course record at Carnoustie. His 72 hole score of 282 was also the lowest score in the history of the Open Championship. There was nothing stopping him, as Hogan had claimed his third straight Major title of the year. He returned to the States for a New York ticker tape parade which was followed by a similar parade in his hometown of Fort Worth on Monday July 27th. Please inspect the accompanying lot photos for a detailed condition report.
