1950 Miami Beach Open Low Amateur Tray - Frank Stranahan
The 1950 edition of the Miami Open was contested at the Miami Springs Country Club. Stranahan easily coasted to the low amateur title, after his brilliant first two rounds of 67-65-132 had him as the overall event leader at the midway point. No small feat in a tournament that included Jack Burke, Art Wall, Sam Snead, Cary Middlecoff, Doug Ford and Jimmy Demaret (all who would wear Augusta's green jackets). In the end the overall championship in this event was another victory for "the Slammer" with Snead coming home on top for the fourth of his six wins at the event. The pro's of the day knew to always keep one eye on Stranahan as he had already upstaged them at this event in 1948 winning not only the amateur title, but the overall title as well that year.
Offered in this lot, for his work in 1950, is Stranahan's low amateur award which is etched: 1950 - Miami Beach Open - Low Amateur - Frank Stranahan
