1949 Ryder Cup at Ganton Patch

Here is a red, white and blue bullion patch in shield design for the 1949 Ryder Cup in England at The Ganton golf course. The match had plenty of interesting quirks and controversies. The US team brought a half ton of meat with them as England was still on meat rationing as an after effect of the war. They shared this with the British team. On the eve of the matches Captain Hogan filed a complaint with the British Captain about some of the British players irons. The Brits ultimately agreed to play with the same grooves as the US team. In the match the US took advantage of overnight rain before the second day of matches to come back from a 2-point deficit and defeat the Brits 7 to 5.
