1946 Augusta National Golf Club Masters Invitation, Photo & Rules Display
The invitation that welcomed golfers back to The Masters Tournament for the first time since 1942! This 1946 Masters Tournament invitation from the Board of Governors, and specifically Augusta National Golf Club Vice President Alfred Severin Bourne, was sent to prized Michigan Amateur Chuck Kocsis. Kocsis, a world renowned player, played in 11 Masters as an amateur, making the cut in 8 and was the low Amateur once. This year in 1946 however, Kocsis was ill during the tournament and handwrote this back to the Board of Governors so they wouldn't expect his participation. It is very tastefully matted, with a Rules committee armband just below from that time-period. Photos of Augusta National Golf Club and Masters royalty 1) Jones, Hogan, and Roberts and 2) Eisenhower, Palmer and Roberts are presented on either side. Masters Tournament invitations remain nearly impossible to track down and be made available, but this example from the first tournament after World War II nearly 80 years ago and a specific player with his hand-written reply is that much more difficult. 37" x 25"
