1939 US Open Gene Sarazen Wire Photo - Reading Program
The champion in the 1939 Open was Byron Nelson who entered a 18-hole three way playoff with Denny Schute and Craig Wood following the regulation 72 holes. Nelson and Wood remained tied after the 18-hole playoff requiring another 18 holes between the two which Lord Byron would win completing his second of five major championships.
