1939 US Amateur at North Shore CC Program - Bud Ward Winner
This lot offers a seldom seen example of the 1939 U.S. Amateur program from Bud Ward's 7 & 5 win over Raymond Billows at North Shore C.C. in Glenview, Illinois. The success which Ward had in winning the '39 Amateur came as no surprise as his game was in top form having finished one stroke out of a playoff with Byron Nelson, Craig Wood and Denny Shute earlier in the summer at the U.S. Open. Ward would also claim a second U.S. Amateur title in 1941. This difficult reader featuring the clubhouse on the cover exhibits some some signs of water damage through spine and inside pages, as well as slight overall cover wear. Further educating the patrons, Bobby Jones is pictured as a past champion, OB Keeler has an article inside the soft covers, as well as a hole-to-hole depiction.
