1936 The Amateur Championship at St. Andrews Official Programme


This 48-page program contains many wonderful articles and pictures pertaining to St. Andrews and the Old Course. It Includes an informative five-page article by Bernard Darwin detailing the Old Course, a depiction of St. Andrews in 1892, and a picture of professionals with long nose clubs including Willie Dunn, Willi Park, Tom Morris and Alan Robertson. Also includes a listing of Amateur Champions and their match results from 1885 to 1935, including Bobby Jones' 1930 triumph a mere six years prior. Daily pairings for first through fifth rounds are listed within the program. The 1936 Amateur Championship was won by Hector Thompson of Scotland 2 up over Jim Ferrier of the US. Official Programme for Thursday, 28th May, 1936. The decorated amateur golfer played in two Walker Cup teams in 1936 and 1938. Pre-WWII major championship programs from the United Kingdom remain a challenge for ephemera collectors.
