1934 US Open at Merion GC Practice Round Ticket w/String
As a tip of the cap to scarcity, 'Roger Gilchrist's Guide to Golf Collectibles' listed this ticket as "none known" in the revered price guide and industry reference tool in 2004. That checks out, twenty years later this is only the third ticket we have offered from that Merion "Cricket Club"-hosted pre-WWII tournament in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. Not just that, but the pink ducat comes in great condition with scalloped edges and the practice round date even stamped just prior on the left side. The 1934 US Open was the first contested by the United States Golf Association at Merion and the first year that both Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson US Open debuts! The "Slammin' Spaniard" Olin Dutra came back from eight shots back to beat Gene Sarazen and claimed the Open title. For the 33-year-old it marked his second Major championship victory after having triumphed in the 1932 PGA Championship at Keller Golf Club. Offered here is a June 6, 1934 Practice Round Ticket low #252 with its original string from the 1934 US Open at Merion.
