1934 National Match Play Open Golf Championship Vibrant Broadside - Tom Creavy Win
1931 PGA Championship winner Tom Creavy was victorious at Lake Merced Golf and Country Club in San Francisco, California that played host of the 1934 Match Play Open Championship. In this lot is a fine example of advertising from the beginning of the 20th century. This broadside is made of heavy card-stock to get the word out about a tournament named the "Fourth National Match Play Open Golf Championship" that was played at Lake Merced Golf and Country Club in San Francisco, California. The golfer featured in the poster has the semi-formal tie, dress shirt and shoes and plus fours that are indicative of the time period. The poster was produced by the Pacific Telephone Company and measures 14" by 22." There is a cartoon illustration that was drawn on the reverse side of this poster and it exhibits overall general wear, including tack holes from hanging.
