1934 Masters Augusta National Invitation Tournament Official Program

Surely one of the finest examples of the 1934 Augusta National Invitational (Masters) programs that we've seen, this new discovery for the industry represents one of the most treasured artifacts in all of golf collecting. Augusta National produced a very limited number of programs for its first tournament in 1934 due to financial constraints, and fear of limited interest in the event. This lot contains one of these seldom seen 1934 programs. The 1934 Augusta Invitation Tournament program was produced to be used as an advertising tool to solicit new membership for the Augusta National Golf Club and to make some much needed revenue for Bobby Jones' start-up club. While other examples of this highly treasured 1934 publication usually exhibits darkened edging and heavy wear to the hypersensitive bright mint colored cover now almost a century since its print, this example stands head and shoulders above those. Pleasingly, it exhibits very light cover wear on perimeter, spine (only noted for accuracy purposes), bold print and lily white near-mint pages inside - Excellent condition. Completely unrestored, each corner comes to a point with the bottom right corner showing a small crease and 1/8" edge wear on top left only seen when looking for. Its noticeably high presentation value is obvious and it has been preserved to be one of the top inaugural Masters Tournament programs in existence. Please inspect the accompanying lot images for better understanding of the hard-to-beat condition of the publication firmly held together with a tight binding. The offered version here of the inaugural program does contain the final scoring of Horton Smith in his 1934 victory. Please note that due to the reversing of the front and back nines, the previous owner notated the new hole numbers in the section dedicated to the hole layouts. All 44 pages are intact, along with the scoring sheet insert. It measures 10 1/16 x 8 1/2." This highly desired, yet seldom found heirloom is the pinnacle to advance any Masters or golf collection.
