1934 Augusta National Invitation Tournament First Masters Sunday Final Round Ticket #1323

New Discovery from North Augusta family archives! Collectors and investors advancing into the thinner air of the most significant sporting events or simply Masters tickets, and more specifically, ducats with the designation for final day/round Sunday admittance to Augusta National, must give this opportunity concerted attention. Passed through the hands of a single family from one generation to the next, it comes directly to auction with great anticipation of commanding a large number.

It has long been recognized by the devoted collectors of Masters tickets that there is a real scarcity of 1934 daily entrances that remain, now approaching 100 years after the fact, be they for any day of the event. Now lets go one step forward to a real stratospheric level of scarcity -- less than 10 holy grail tickets from Sunday the day and round the first champion Horton Smith was crowned are known and only three fully intact series tickets. These are sought by many for decades and for many only a dream. The signed series badge that we offered in our 2024 April Auction brought $470k and our bidders have been asking for another '34 ticket since. This example deserves to be placed in a major collection run of Masters badges, perhaps those of that highly important final day designation, so it can shine among its peers for years to come. The answer to many collectors prayers, a shot at the ultimate grail.

Vibrant blue with robust black print are found on this 1934 'Augusta National Invitation Tournament' centered paper ticket, as it was officially known as until 1938. 'Final Round Medal Play - Sunday, March 25th' is found below and just above 'Price $2.00-Tax 20c' for the 'Total $2.20' which comes out to approximately $54 USD today - a bargain! Furthering The Masters origin story that differs from its current - Sunday's final round in 1934 concluded the week of festivities that included Wednesday '2 Ball Foursomes' and the Thursday-Saturday morning respective 'Approach & Putt Contest', 'Iron Contest', and 'Driving Contest' - all before the tournament play finally started in the afternoon. The verso interestingly reads "America leads the world today in the manufacture of fine golf products. The best golf balls are 75 cents each. Your professional sells them. His instruction and leadership are of great importance in making golf a more enjoyable game to play. Patronize him for instructions and supplies." It remains in good vintage condition nearly 100 years later, with some creasing and very faint, expected surface wear as depicted in accompanying photos and mentioned only for accuracy purposes.

Long before simply looking up the final scores on your phone, and even prior to the scoreboards added to the grounds of Augusta National, this original patron wrote down each of the top finishers' names and scores with Horton Smith at the top with his 284, followed by Craig Wood, "Billie" Burke, Paul Runyan and the first Head Professional at ANGC Ed Dudley. Rare in this day and age is a new find that has never been seen by the public eye like we have in this offering. Bobby Jones, The Masters Tournament and its first champion Horton Smith are forever etched into not just golf, but sports history with the '1934 Augusta National Invitation Tournament' - this lot's winning bidder will join one of the most prestigious and exclusive collecting clubs in sport. .
