1933 Augusta National Golf Club Official Opening Day Commemorative Postal Cover Postmarked January 13
This vintage paper postal cover commemorates the official opening of the Augusta National Golf Club. The left side features a printed cachet in blue and red ink, illustrating legendary golfer Robert T. Bobby Jones in a mid-swing pose alongside a map of the United States with a golf flag marking Augusta, Georgia. The cachet text reads: AUGUSTA NATIONAL GOLF CLUB, Robert T. (Bobby) Jones Course OPENING Jan. 13, 1933. Augusta, Ga. A 3-cent purple United States postage stamp featuring William Penn is affixed to the upper right corner. The stamp is cancelled with a circular date stamp from AUGUSTA GA. dated JAN 13 11 30 AM 1933 and a standard wavy-line machine cancel. The reverse of the envelope shows several faint horizontal ink lines transferred from another envelope's machine cancel.
