1927 Tom Morris WA & AC Churchman Famous Golfers #33 NM-MT 8
Here is a high grade example of the Tom Morris 1927 WA & AC Churchman Famous Golfers, scoring a Near Mint-Mint 8 by the discerning eye of PSA after nearly 100 years since print. Morris Sr. is depicted in the posed address position with his beard blowing in the St Andrews wind and looking at the lensman. Unsurprisingly, only 8 examples in the PSA registry have ever been graded higher.
Narrowly defeated in the intial British Open Championship in 1860, "Old Tom" went on to win four of the first eight Open's (1861,62,64,67). On the heels of that success he served as Greenskeeper at St. Andrews from 1865-1904.Morris Sr. played in every British Open to 1896 when he was was 75 years old. An accomplished ball and club maker, "Old Tom" gained much acclaim for his design work with Royal County Down, Lahinch in Ireland and of course Muirfield to his credit. He passed away in 1908 and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1976. PSA has encapsulated this card for valuation, presentation and preservation #59882805.
