1926 Rip Van Winkle Golf And Country Club Tiffany Co. Sterling Silver Trophy
Seven years after Donald Ross designed this 9 hole course in the Catskills the club would hold a tournament and present this trophy to the ladies champion. It must have been considered a prestigious club event because this sterling trophy was finely crafted by Tiffany and weighs a hefty 829 grams and the base is not marked weighted or loaded. The Inscription on the trophy is “Rip Van Winkle, Golf and Country Club, Golf Tournament 1926, Ladies First Prize, Won By “ This large chalice trophy stands 12 inches tall, the diameter of the chalice at the top is 6 ½ “ and weighs 828 grams.
The Rip Van Winkle Golf and Country Club, to its credit, remains a 9 hole course, and is still family run by a third generation of the original Smith family owners. Ross laid the course out below a striking mountain ridgeline. Overall an impressive Tiffany trophy with high intrinsic silver and display value and soon to be reaching the 100th anniversary of its’ issuance.
