1926 Bobby Jones British Amateur Original PSA Type I Photo by Underwood & Underwood w/ Foe Andrew Jamieson Jr.

This is an original Type I black and white news service photograph capturing a historic moment of sportsmanship between legendary golfer Bobby Jones and Scottish golfer Andrew Jamieson Jr. at the 1926 British Amateur Championship. The photograph depicts the 24-year-old Jones shaking hands with the 21-year-old Jamieson on the green after Jamieson defeated Jones in the quarterfinals of the Championship. Both players are shown wearing knickers, high socks, sweaters, and caps, with a large gallery of spectators lining the Muirfield dunes in the background.

The front of the PSA holder labels it News Service Photo of Bobby Jones by leading firm Underwood and Underwood from the 1926 British Amateur, graded Type I Authentic with certification number 85082576. As a Type I photograph, this is a first-generation print developed from the original negative within approximately two years of the image being taken. The reverse of the photograph contains extensive editorial archive markings, including a typed paper caption titled AMATEUR GOLF SENSATION. The caption details the interaction and quotes Jones saying, You have played very well indeed, to Jamieson. Additionally, the reverse features a Bettmann Archive conditions of use label, handwritten notations including VV 3930, 238x48, 42 GOLF. The win by American Jesse Sweetser in this event combined with Jones' win at the 1926 British Open marked the first time United States players claimed these British titles in the same year. Slight chipping to upper left and lower left corners the only condition concerns we can nitpick on this very well preserved 100 year old image of Scottish and U.S. favorite "our Bobby".
