1924 PGA Championship at French Lick Waltham Stand/Travel Clock - Rare & Works!
In only the seventh edition of the PGA Championship, world-beater Walter Hagen improved his tournament match record to 15-1 defeating Jim Barnes in the finals 2 up. The Haig captured his sixth of his then record 11 majors here at the Donald Ross designed French Lick Springs Golf Club in Indiana built just seven years prior. Waltham Watches have been produced for nearly 175 years, excellence, precision and class. This travel clock in working order(!) is displayed in the Pluto red logo casing carries the name Joe Davis on the top. 'Professional Golfers' Association Tournament - French Lick Springs Golf Club 1924' encircles the clock face gold tone on black. Clock itself can be removed from original case that contains 'Waltham' in the top green cloth underside as depicted in the accompanying lot photos. This rare gifted clock from Hagen's triumph was presented to sportswriter for the Chicago Tribune Joe Davis, who covered golf tournaments in the Midwest during this time along with this story. The first of its kind that we have seen, this watch remains in good working condition with some of the gold-tone writing and black casing itself showing age as expected and depicted in the lot photos.
