1922 Bobby Jones Type I Original News Service Photo Pacific & Atlantic PSA #84569362

Noticeably frustrated by the grimacing facial expression, 20-year-young Bobby Jones is professionally captured in this incredible, crystal clear close shot PSA Type 1 portrait of the young phenom fresh off of his defeat. Jones' 1922 US Open finish would be the final as a non-US Open winner. The greatest amateur golfer of all-time was not that overnight. The trials and tribulations infamously included Bobby Jones' 1921 Open Championship temper flare up that ended his tournament early, as well as this runner-up finish at Skokie Country Club by the slimmest of margins to to Gene Sarazen. Bowtie donning, with flawless center-parted hair highlighted by the Glencoe, IL summertime sun, Jones was not in the mood for media attention at that moment. His piercing eyes tell the whole story. In focus, with the background out, this brave lensman captured history none-the-less. The verso of this PSA Type 1 Pacific & Atlantic photo carries numerous stamps and handwritten press notations, along with the below transcribed accompanying caption affixed. It is encapsulated for presentation, preservation and valuation purposes by PSA with the much preferred Type 1 photo designation. This is worthy of the finest Bobby Jones and sports photo collections, as this is one of the finest photos of then phenom Bobby Jones.

"Bobby Jones Follows Close on the Trail of Sarazen for Golf Honor: Many of the dopesters had it all cut and dried that Bobby Jones would be the wonder to whack his way to the United States golf championship. Running neck and neck with him came Walter Hagen. But the young fellow Sarazen from Highlands club and professional kept just one stroke ahead. Photo shows Bobby Jones after it was all over. Do you think he looks a bit disappointed? 6" x 8 1/2"
