1922 US Amateur Championship at The Country Club Brookline Member Badge - T.B. Gammett

The Country Club at Brookline was the historic site of the 1922 US Amateur in which Jess Sweetster would triumph over Chick Evans 3&2 in the finals and issue a jaw-dropping 8 & 7 defeat of Bobby Jones in the semi-finals round, yes you read that correctly, Jess Sweetster was the last one standing. Brookline represented one of the five founding USGA charter clubs and has played an integral part in golf in the United States. Offered in this marquee lot is certainly one of the finest examples of the seldom seen 1922 US Amateur Bookline Member's badge in existence. This personalized pin served as a badge of passage to the course for Country Club of Brookline member T.B. Gammett, written in time-period ink on the rectangular encased paper nameplate . The 1922 badge presents as a circular pin hanging by a single link from T.B. Gammett name. In forest green enamel is "MEMBER" in raised gold colored lettering. In a rounded line on the top is "AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - USGA" with The Country Club's iconic left-facing squirrel. Below the enamel stripe includes in pertinent tournament information "THE COUNRTY CLUB -BROOKLINE, MASS. - SEPT. 2-9, 1922" all in raised type. As significant as this badge, from an identified member, is for scarcity and condition of equal appeal to collectors is that a participant of Bobby Jones, Francis Ouimet (Winner of the 1913 US Open at Brookline) and Chick Evans. After a 8 & 7 defeat of Bobby Jones in the semifinal, yes you read that correctly, Jess Sweetster was the last one standing. Presentation of this piece is superb, with the very good to excellent condition only adding to it. This 1922 Country Club of Brookline MEMBERS badge provides all the requisites of the ideal golf collectible, and would be a worthy inclusion in just about any advanced collection. Medal with nametag height is 2 1/4", medal is 1 1/2" in diameter.
