1922 Golf Club of Allegheny County Large Sterling on Bronze Presidents Cup Trophy
In June 1922, The Golf Club of Allegheny County held its 28th annual Invitation tournament. Per an article in the June 4 1922 Pittsburgh Gazette the tournament was the oldest fixture in the county, played without interruption since inaugurated.
The Presidents Cup in that tournament was awarded to the person with the best net score and we believe this is that cup. This heavy trophy stands over 14” tall and is 8” wide at the outside of the handles. It bears the Silver Crest trademark of the Smith Metal Arts Co. The front of the bronze trophy is decorated in sterling. There is a man
swinging a golf club and above him is a golf course scene with sand tee box, flag, club house, and golf course. This scene is repeated on the back of the trophy. 8x14"
