1920 George Pietzcker Jim Barnes Open Championship at St Andrews Flicker Book - Rare
The camera eye in which captured this flicker book swing sequence of Jim Barnes at the 1920 Open Championship was George Pietzcker, the preeminent photographer from St. Louis, who covered the golf seen from the early 1910's till mid 1930's. During this time period, he was the official photographer for the United States Golf Association creating a visual record of the country's national championships and champions. 'The first shot' hand notated in red across the cover describes Jim Barnes' tee shot depiction covered from the address to the follow through over Pietzcker's sequential shot photographic study. Inside that studio stamped cover with the 'Jim Barnes' ink labeling is the date in which this series of images were taken. This is significant as June 21, 1920 put Barnes at St Andrews for The Open Championship, with the first round happening the following day. The single foremost name in the golf photography category, George Pietcker's century old work commands a premium from advanced collectors - with his Jim Barnes flicker book a portfolio unlike any we have seen before. Its cover's format, since unbinded, would lead us to believe it is perhaps a very rare pre-print, single production example in a different and earlier stage than the Warren Skinner refined black cover with gold gild book we had five years ago. Safe to say this is your only chance at this George Pietzcker flicker book of 4-time major winner James Barnes at the Open Championship of 1920 - bid to win.
