1916 Pinehurst North and South Annual Amateur Tournament Trophy

This trophy features a seldom if ever seen design of sterling on a California Redwood burl bowl. The inscription engraved on the sterling around the rim reads: North and South Tournament, Runner Up, Captains Division, Pinehurst Country Club, Pinehurst, N.C. April 8, 1916, Won By Charles Atherton Hartwell. The North and South started in 1901 and became one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments in the world. Over the years it has been won by Travis, Evans, Ouimet, Stranahan, Campbell and Nicklaus, just to name a few. Approx. 9 inches in diameter and 3 inches high with Gorham sterling stamp. Bottom has a decal “California Redwood Burl.” The uniqueness of this trophy, and the historical prestige of the North and South, should command the attention of collectors.
