1915 Midwick CC Championship Shield Trophy Awarded to Robert E. Hunter - 1904 Olympic Gold Medalist

Presented here is metal trophy plaque shield awarded to Robert E. Hunter, a 1904 Olympic Team Gold Medalist. This particular 1915 shield is quite large and it appears to have been removed at one time from a wooden display. This shield is constructed from a silver-tone metal featuring a hand-hammered border and a smooth central panel. The face of the plaque is deeply engraved with the text CHAMPIONSHIP OF MIDWICK COUNTRY CLUB SEASON OF 1915 WON BY ROBERT E. HUNTER. At the top center, an inset shield-shaped enamel emblem is present, featuring a purple field with intertwined silver-colored characters MCC representing the Midwick Country Club. The reverse of the plaque is fitted with three circular brass-colored mounting feet. No maker marks or silver purity appear on the shield. Midwick Country Club was a historical social and athletic club located in Alhambra, California, known for high-profile golf and polo competitions. Robert E. Hunter also won the 1910 NCAA individual championship and was a member of the inaugural 1922 United States Walker Cup team.
