1914 Whitemarsh Valley CC Inv. Tournament Sterling Overlay Runner-Up Bloomfield Trophy
Endlessly extraordinary when evaluating its aesthetics is this Whitemarsh Valley Country Club sterling silver overlay glass pitcher trophy with engulfed in a floral vines design and stopper presented in 1914 for the prized club's Invitation tournament. This overlay jug decanter offers a matching stopper elegantly engraved 'Whitemarsh Valley - Country Club - Invitation Tournament - 1914 - Bloomfield Trophy - Runner Up.' A portfolio centerpiece of the course architectural mastermind George C. Thomas Jr., the Pennsylvania course was tucked into an existing hilly property six years prior in 1908. The author of Golf Architecture in America completed Whitemarsh Valley and two other eastern courses prior to heading out west to California in 1919 and bringing to life Los Angeles Country Club, Riviera and others. Host of the 1934 US Women's Amateur won by Virginia Van Wie and the 18-year Philadelphia Open PGA Tour stop starting in 1963, the club routinely ranks in the top 100 golf courses and at or near the top in the state. A wide base advancing to a narrow top includes a sterling covered handle, culminating in one of the finest displaying golf trophies you ever will see from the prestigious Northeast club. Please inspect the accompanying lot photos for a detailed condition report, detailing a crack that travels from the top below the spout the the bottom and back up in a semi circle. It remains strong and intact of course, but on one side of it this is visible. It measures 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 7 1/2" and would be the focal point of many glass with sterling overlay collections.
