1913 USGA Open Championship at The Country Club Brookline Pin/Badge - Rare

An incredible recent find by an ardent pin collector, this green, white and yellow circle pin was used to witness the truly historic Francis Ouimet 1913 US Open victory at The Country Club and only second of its kind we have offered - the first commanding $3,450.00 nearly three years ago now. This example emerges as the superior in condition of the pair, with excellent centering and an even yellow (golden) border and minimal oxidation on the metal verso as depicted in the accompanying lot photos. The stage was set, with the outcome undetermined as the United States Golf Association chose Massachusetts' own The Country Club in Brookline to host their national championship, the US Open. Brookline, Massachusetts, native and 20-year old amateur Ouimet would earn the nickname "Father of Amateur Golf" with tournament victory joined on the journey by his 10-year-old caddy Eddie Lowery. It wouldn't be until after a playoff with two much more experienced and battle tested professional champions in Ted Ray and Harry Vardon that Ouimet would be catapulted onto shoulders in celebration by the Brookline citizens - much deserved. David had beaten Goliath, times two!

Presented here is a true gem, the scarce aforementioned deep green and yellow colored badge pin from the 1913 USGA (US) Open Championship held at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. The unlikely story of Francis Ouimet over Harry Vardon and Ted Ray. This colorful prize has all the trimmings of a museum quality piece packed into its 1" diameter construction. This badge witnessed one of the legendary golf events of all time - if only it could speak to tell us it’s story. This pin badge could have been issued to a contestant, patron, dignitary, or official but we are not quite certain. 'TCC' stands for, of course the historic 'The Country Club' of Brookline. In any event it is exceedingly rare and quite desirable. Don’t let this piece get away.
