1912 'Golf From The Times' Book by Bernard Darwin
This circa 1912 compendium of the writings of Bernard Darwin in the Times is a treasure of golf literature. It remains very hard to find, especially in this condition. Green boards with gold gilt, this is deserving of your golf library inclusion.
Within this 141 page book Darwin covers a wide range of golf subjects to include essays on players, architecture, courses, matches and humor.
Darwin’s journalism skills bring golf to life in a unique and appealing manner as only Darwin can.
Bernard was the grandson of naturalist Charles Darwin. An accomplished golfer and graduate of Cambridge, Bernard first became involved with covering a tournament in 1907 and thereafter left his job as a lawyer and joined the Times.
The rest is history. Besides being the Times golf correspondent, he wrote numerous club histories and handbooks and other books on golf. Donovan and Jerris cite him as the greatest golf writer of the twentieth century.
Bernard Darwin’s last piece for The Times appeared in 1953. He died in 1961.
Gilt lettered green cloth first edition. D&J D5110
This book is a must have for any golf library.
