1912 New Jersey Golf Assoc. Amateur Champ. at Atlantic City RU Sterling Silver Trophy Won by Jerome Travers
World Golf Hall of Fame inductee of the 1976 class, Jerome Travers, didn't just put New Jersey Golf on the map, but American golfers on it too. Son of Vincent Paul Travers, president of Standard Rope and Twine Co, (astounding) four-time US Amateur and 1915 US Open champion put While winning on a national scale, Travers continued to contest locally at the tournament near and dear to the New York City born and New Jersey native. Preceding Bobby Jones by 10-15 years, Travers is second to only Jones in US Amateur wins (5 to 4). Other notables at the top of the USGA's Am wins chart, Tiger Woods (3) and Jack Nicklaus (2).
Representing one of the very few awards presented to Jerome 'Jerry' Travers available for public consumption is this elegant 1912 NJGA Amateur Championship runner-up sterling silver trophy won by Travers in which we proudly showcase in this lot. The New Jersey Golf Association (NJGA) Amateur Championships were the only show in town. To no one's surprise Travers won the 1907, 1908, 1911 and 1913 while playing out of Montclair Golf Club in West Orange of Essex County N.J. The eventual four-time winner would be runner-up to Oswald Kirkby of Englewood that would win for the first of three times in 1912 at Atlantic City CC. On the underside of the platter is the Sterling Silver identifying hallmark of this prized piece of golf history. Deserving of inclusion and display at the finest institutions, museums and private collections is the golf luminary's personal 1912 NJGA Amateur Championship. This item weighs 21.2 oz and measures 10" x 10" x 4 1/2".

Not only has Don been a collector of historic golf memorabilia, but he has also ventured into helping the preservation and presentation of golf clubs with his Golf Carousel (see final photo in listing). While wintering in Key West, Florida, Don was introduced by good friend Bill Bernicker to Wes Wyatt, co-chair of Wyatt Inc, and proud supporter of DF Young/Good Boy Vodka P1 Offshore Racing. Don mentioned a product that he had been working on that would house and display the most important clubs and golf balls in any golf collector’s inventory. Wes discussed his company Wyatt Incorporated located in Smithton, PA can create any style of sophisticated woodwork as well as cabinetry and detailed trim. From that point, the birth of The Golf Carousel was underway. The Wyatt Inc. team began the fabrication process drawing from the inspiration Don had shown in his original sketches and ideas.
