1910 Massachusetts/Rhode Island State Championship Tiffany & Co Medal
Per an article in the trusted Boston Globe publication on September 25, 1910, there was an annual interstate golf match held the previous day between
the bordering Massachsetts Golf Association and the Rhode Island Golf Association. The match was held at The Country Club in
Brookline. Massachusetts won 12 points to 3 and was their fourth
successive victory in these matches.
Here we have a large 1 ½” bronze medal, made by the prized Tiffany & Co, awarded to one of the select participants in that match - H. W. Stucklen. One side of the medal is stamped Massachsetts Golf Association and the other side is engraved “Rhode Island Golf Association 1910 won by H.W. Stucklen.” The medal is stamped “Tiffany & Co,” on the bottom near the
rim. Attached to the medal is the original red ribbon and pin with
“State Championship” stamped on the bronze header. As a bonus, the medal is accompanied by it’s original Tiffany
silk lined box shown in the lot photos. This is an impressive and highly collectible medal from the early days of both the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Golf Associations and also relates to The Country Club in Brookline.
