1905 Columbia Golf Club Sterling Silver Cut Glass Fall Tournament Trophy
This stunning Columbia Golf Club cut glass trophy exuding class is topped off in a sterling silver overlay containing the 1905 club tournament engraving. Engraved on the sterling silver flared spout is. “Columbia Golf Club, Fall Tournament, 1905, Consolation 1st sixteen, Won by.” Markings on the bottom of the rim include “Sterling 922U - 925-1000 Fine.” The highly intricate design uses complex lines and patterning throughout the composition and has survived these nearly 120 years (just a year after opening its doors) in overall great condition boasting high aesthetics.
The invitation only Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase Maryland has a rich 120 year history, and has hosted three national golf championships including the 1921 US Open won Jim Barnes. Despite the club's early phrasing of 'Columbia Golf Club' we believe it is the Chevy Chase, MD club that it is referencing, the only suiter at the time of presentation in 1905. The golf course is widely recognized as a Walter Travis design. Hard to look away from the photos in this lot, make it hard to look away from in your own high-grade golf display.
