1900 Metropolitan Golf Association Championship Women’s Morris County Golf Club Sterling Silver Trophy
This elegant sterling silver on glass three handled trophy was created by the Alvin Mfg. Co. in New Jersey and bears their mark on the bottom rim along with “999/1000 Fine , 3503 .patented”. The Metropolitan Golf Association was founded in 1897 and is one of the oldest golf associations in the United States. The Women’s Championship of 1900 final match was between Miss Genevieve Hecker and Miss Ruth Underhill. Underhill was the 1899 and reigning USGA Women’s Amateur Champion. Hecker would go on to win the both the 1901-and 1902Women’s Amateur championships. In this 1900 Metropolitan Golf Association Championship Hecker would strongly upset Underhill 9 and 7. This trophy is the Consolation Cup presented to Ruth Underhill. The inscription on the trophy reads “Women’s Metropolitan Championship Tournament, Morris County Golf Club, June 1900, Consolation Cup.
The Morris County Golf Club was one of the early member Clubs of the USGA in 1895. Fittingly for this trophy, the club was planned, organized and operated by women. Morris County GC hosted the 1896 and 1905 Women’s Amateur Championship and the 1897 Men’s Amateur.
This is a magnificent early women’s golf trophy that featured a match between two historically significant pioneering women golf champions. On the inside of this 6 ½” tall trophy there are three cracks. They are flush to the surface and can hardly be seen from the outside. They do not affect the integrity or presentation quality of the trophy.

When placing your INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bidders in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm EDT
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm EDT
Extended bidding starts at 10pm EDT, and each lot will begin closing with its own 30-minute countdown timer. Lots without a bid during extended bidding will close at 10:30pm ET. We recommend you place your maximum bid(s) prior to that time. Thank you
