1899 Notts Golf Club Gifted Gold Watch To Tom Williamson - High Place in Open Championship
English Golfer Tom Williamson finished in the top ten of the Open Championship six times in the early 20th century. It was customary for each golfer to be affiliated with a club, one that would support and cheer for those golfers that were participating in The Open Championship in a bid to become the 'Champion Golfer of the Year.' This gold pocket watch was gifted to Williamson by Notts Golf Club to recognize his high finish of 9th place in the 1899 Open Championship. The backside of the watch has the message for Tom Williamson engraved into the award stating:
"Tom Williamson Bullwell Presented by The Notts Golf Club as a mark of our appreciation of the high place taken by him in The Open Golf Championship Sandwich 1899."
The Open Championship is by far the oldest major championship in golf starting, having started in 1860. It is rare to find a personal item like this from the 19th century with Open Championship content. The watch does work! When we wound it up, it began to work, but we did not wind it up too much. We believe the mechanism is in good working order for the watch to function properly.
AUCTION CLOSING RULES:
This auction will end at 9:00pm EST Sunday, May 19th, with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval)
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
