1897 Open Golf Tournament Agawam Hunt Providence Gorham Sterling Silver & Cut Glass Trophy Claret

The perfect meld of simplicity and intricacy is observed before you throughout this early, 20th-century American golf award, the 1897 Open Golf Tournament Agawam Hunt Providence Gorham Sterling Silver & Cut Glass Trophy Claret. Two-time 'Champion Golfer of the Year', with a pair of Claret Jugs of his own, Willie Park Jr. designed Agawam Hunt as a then 9-hole course for the club which opened in 1897. Twenty-three years later and Agawam Hunt would also become a Donald J Ross design, this time comprised of 18 holes. History was preserved to look over likely the earliest artifact from the Rumford, RI club in existence, from one of their very first tournaments. The cut glass claret trophy is carefully and professionally engraved "Oct 22 and 23rd 1897 Rhode Island Handicap Best Gross Score Cup Won by" with the stylized font for this tournament nearly 130 years ago. It remains one of the most exceptional sporting clubs in southern New England, United States. 12 1/8" x 6 3/4" x 5 1/4"
