1897 Life Association of Scotland Michael Brown 'The Ladies' Golf Championship at Gullane'
Renown turn-of-the-century artist Michael Brown's print titled 'The Ladies' Golf Championship at Gullane - 1897' is of a detailed golf scene from the aforementioned tournament crowing the finest female golfer around. Each lady golfer dons a full-length dress accessorized by a time-period brimmed hat. Their caddies, young as they may be, stood by their golfer like a loyal hunting dog. Lining the bottom of this image is the white, handwritten title in practiced calligraphy on the matboard resulting in an aesthetically pleasing composition.
James Michael Brown (1853-1947) a land and seascape artist whose passion for Golf was transposed to his art. Brown was not afraid of complex scenes with countless individuals depicted, as visually chronicling well attended time-period golf tournaments was one of his fortes. 'The Ladies' Golf Championship at Gullane' is evidence of the excellence of Brown's work, worthy of inclusion in any vintage golf artwork collection.
