1860's-1870's Carrick Cleek
Musselburgh's Francis and Archibald Carrick, children of a blacksmith, opened up shop making edged tools in approximately 1840. As did a handful of other like craftsman of their time, the duo produced golf club irons on the side for supplemental income. Along with that they also were ahead of their time with their signature cleek mark to identify their work. Presented in this lot is a deep face Carrick with most of the patented "X" stamping visible in the center of the head back. This is a nice example of an early cleek and was a hard club to play with narrow, elongated blade. Here is one of those prized examples with the "X" on the back of the head, just below the 'F &' partial stamp that is in reference to the first of the brothers Francis and Archibald's initials. Please examine this prized club's accompanying lot photos for a detailed condition report. 39"
