'A Summer Evening on the Musselburgh Links: Golfer's painting was out of view for years, rediscovered and sent to Germany in 1913 for engravings to be made. The original's early buyer was interested not in the subject but in the artist’s work, removed it from the Royal Scottish Academy to his residence in Canada according to a November 1914 Golf Illustrated article. Its accessibility was suspended until the private buyer’s son, an avid golfer, came into possession of it.Few examples remain to this day, a very rare opportunity before you. This tastefully framed monochrome photogravure of Charles Lees' painting features an 1859 (year prior to first Open Championship) golf scene comprised of caddies playing golf on the Musselburgh Links green as the sun sets. Artist Charles Lees (1800-1880) was born in Fife and known for painting portraits until his found appreciation for landscapes and golf. 'A Grand Match Played Over St Andrews Links.' This angle depicted is said to be the view from the north-west of the course and likely the Musselburgh Links' 8th or 9th hole. 41 1/2" x 33 1/2"
