1824 One Page Letter to Secretary of Thistle Golf Club - Requesting Membership
One page missive with compacting folds dated March 8, 1824 enlists club secretary John Cundell of the Thistle Golf Club to advance his membership request, "proposing me as a member at your next meeting." It worked. The gentleman named Alexander Dudgeon would successfully become a member at the club, this information verified by the 1924 Thistle Golf Club Rules book in which his name is included in. The Thistle Golf Club played on the Leith Links of Edinburgh from 1815 - 1830. The club would find its demise in 1833 with the sale of 'golf house' by the Leith Golfers club to pay their debts. The letter remains in excellent condition and comes housed in deluxe framing.
