Jack Nicklaus Signed March 8, 1962 Golf Illustrated Magazine - Wayne Beck Collection
"Jack Nicklaus, who has now turned Professional, Intends to visit Britain this Season," boasted the British publication 'Golf Illustrated' on March 8, 1962. Months before his US Open win, Jack Nicklaus is seen muscling a ball out of the sand trap. Nicklaus added his name to this once 'One Shilling' magazine in black sharpie. Nicklaus would find great success at The Open Championship during his career. The Golden Bear won this third and final Open championship at the 1978 contest held at St. Andrews. The win by only two strokes marked the fifteenth of his eighteen major championships. The victory also completed his third career grand slam. Defending champion Tom Watson was the 54 hole leader but couldn't hold on for the win, faltering back and finishing 6 strokes behind. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
**A hand-signed letter of provenance from Wayne Beck will accompany this lot
